Hi! I'm thig.

Connect Reddit

Connect Reddit to Thig with one click so the Reddit Agent scans subreddits through the official API instead of blocked public pages.

Connecting Reddit lets the Reddit Agent scan your subreddits reliably. Without it, Thig falls back to Reddit's public pages, which often answer servers with an error. You can still reply to any thread by pasting it without connecting anything.

Thig asks only for the identity and read permissions. It never posts, votes or comments for you.

Connect with one click

  1. Open Settings, Integrations.
  2. Under Socials, find Reddit and click Connect with Reddit. (The Reddit Agent page has the same button.)
  3. Sign in to Reddit if asked and click Allow.
  4. You return to the Reddit Agent with a confirmation, and the card shows Connected as u/your_username.

Only workspace owners and admins can connect. If you click Decline on Reddit, nothing is saved. If Reddit later reports that access was removed, the card shows a reconnect message; click Reconnect Reddit.

If the card says Reddit sign-in isn't configured on this server yet, the platform owner has not finished the setup below. You can use Advanced: use your own Reddit app instead.

For the platform owner: create one web app

Do this once per environment. Every workspace then connects with one click.

  1. Sign in to Reddit and open reddit.com/prefs/apps.
  2. Click create another app.
  3. Enter the name Thig and choose the type web app.
  4. Set redirect uri to https://your-domain/api/connectors/reddit/oauth/callback. For local development use http://localhost:3000/api/connectors/reddit/oauth/callback. Reddit accepts one redirect uri per app, so use a separate app for development.
  5. Click create app. Copy the client ID (the short string under the app name) and the secret.
  6. Set REDDIT_CLIENT_ID, REDDIT_CLIENT_SECRET and REDDIT_REDIRECT_URI (the same uri as in step 4) on the API server and restart it.

Reddit documents apps in its OAuth2 guide.

Advanced: use your own Reddit app

If you prefer your own credentials, open Advanced: use your own Reddit app in the connect window.

  1. Create an app of type script at reddit.com/prefs/apps with the redirect uri http://localhost:8080 (it is not used).
  2. Paste the Client ID and Client secret. Optionally add your Reddit username and Reddit password for script access; leave both empty for read-only app access.
  3. Click Save app. Thig checks the credentials with Reddit before saving. Secrets are stored encrypted and shown only as the last four characters.

What changes in the Reddit Agent

  • Scans use the Reddit API with a descriptive user agent and respect Reddit's rate limits, pausing when the limit is nearly used up.
  • The note on the Reddit Agent page disappears once Reddit is connected.
  • Publishing stays manual: copy the draft and open the thread.

Troubleshooting

  • Reddit access was revoked or expired: you removed Thig at reddit.com/prefs/apps or Reddit expired the grant. Click Reconnect Reddit.
  • Reddit rejected the credentials (invalid_grant) with your own app: the username or password is wrong, or the account uses two-factor authentication. Leave the username and password empty to use app-only mode.
  • Unauthorized (401): the client ID or secret is wrong. Copy them again from the apps page.
  • Scan still fails after connecting: Reddit may be rate limiting your app. Wait a few minutes and scan again.

Questions about this page

Does Thig post to Reddit for me?

No. The connection is used to read public posts. To reply, copy the draft and open the thread.

Do I need to give my Reddit password?

No. You sign in on reddit.com and approve access there. Thig never sees your password.

Can I disconnect?

Yes. Disconnect in Settings, Integrations. Thig also revokes its access at Reddit.

Why does the Reddit Agent need this?

Reddit often refuses anonymous requests that come from servers, so scans find nothing. The official API accepts them.
