Hi! I'm thig.

Hacker News Agent

Use the Thig Hacker News Agent to draft Show HN and Ask HN posts with title variants and a first comment, then track what you posted.

The Hacker News Agent helps you write Show HN and launch posts in the plain, factual style the community expects. It gives you title variants, a post body and a first comment. You submit on Hacker News yourself. This agent is in beta.

Draft a post

  1. Open the Hacker News Agent and click Draft a Hacker News post.
  2. Choose the Post kind, for example Show HN or Ask HN. Ask HN posts have no link.
  3. Add an Angle (optional) and Notes for the agent (optional): what is new, what you want feedback on, technical details worth mentioning.
  4. Click Generate.

Review the draft

Each draft includes:

PartWhat to check
Title variantsPick one as the Chosen title, or write your own
Post bodyPlain and specific. Optional for link posts
First commentWho you are, why you built it, what is new, what feedback you want

Edit any part. Hacker News readers respond to honesty and detail, so remove anything that sounds like marketing.

Submit on Hacker News

  1. Approve the draft.
  2. Click Copy title, Copy body and Copy comment as you go.
  3. Submit on Hacker News from your own account, then post the first comment.
  4. Back in Thig, click Mark posted on the draft.

Drafts move through Drafts, Approved, Posted and Dismissed tabs so you can see what you have launched.

Before you post

  • Read the official Show HN guidelines. Show HN is for things people can try.
  • Do not ask friends to upvote. Hacker News penalises voting rings.
  • Be around for a few hours after posting to answer questions.
  • Use a draft checklist to track launch prep. The agent saves checklist progress on the draft.

The Hacker News ideas monitor suggests new angles weekly.
