X thread splitter for long posts

This X thread splitter breaks long text into posts that fit the 280-character limit. It splits at paragraph and sentence boundaries first, only breaks mid-sentence when a sentence is too long, counts links as 23 characters the way X does, and can add 1/n numbering. Copy posts one by one or all at once.

Blank lines start a new post.

How to use the X Thread Splitter

  1. 1Paste your textA blog intro, a newsletter section or notes. Blank lines force a new post.
  2. 2Choose numberingPick 1/n, (1), or none. Numbering space is reserved automatically.
  3. 3Set the limit280 for standard accounts. Use a lower number to leave room for edits.
  4. 4Review each postEach card shows its character count. Edit the source and the thread updates.
  5. 5Copy and postCopy each post into X, or copy all to paste into a scheduler.

How the splitter decides where to break

  1. Paragraphs (blank lines) always start a new post.
  2. Sentences are packed together until the next one would not fit.
  3. A single sentence longer than the limit is split at the last space that fits.

Links count as 23 characters each, because X shortens every URL with its t.co service. X describes how it counts characters in its developer documentation.

Frequently asked questions

What is the character limit on X?

Standard posts allow 280 characters. Subscribers can post longer text, but threads of shorter posts are still easier to read in the timeline.

Do emojis count as two characters?

X counts many emojis and some non-Latin characters as two. This tool uses a close approximation, so leave a few characters of margin.

Is my text saved?

No. Splitting happens in your browser and nothing is stored or sent.
